A Plan for
Oakland’s Future

Six clear priorities to strengthen Oakland Community College, expand access, and be a responsible steward of every taxpayer dollar.

1
Priority One

Increase Enrollment

OCC’s future depends on a strong, growing student body. Marian will bring the college directly to the community — visiting every high school in Oakland County to talk with students and parents about what OCC has to offer.

  • Visit every Oakland County high school to speak with students and parents
  • Expand outreach to learners at all age levels, not just recent graduates
  • Build partnerships with community organizations to spread the word
2
Priority Two

Boost Graduation & Completion Rates

Enrollment alone isn’t success — every student who starts at OCC deserves to finish. Marian will address the real barriers that stop students from completing their education.

  • Expand online and hybrid program offerings to serve students who can’t come to campus
  • Improve transportation access and coordinate with local transit
  • Increase family support services so life obstacles don’t end academic journeys
3
Priority Three

Promote Online Learning

Flexible learning options are the future of accessible education. Marian will ensure Oakland County knows about the full range of online programs OCC offers, meeting students wherever they are in life.

  • Advertise OCC programs in local newspapers and community newsletters
  • Conduct outreach visits to middle and high schools to plant early interest
  • Champion investment in digital infrastructure and online course quality
4
Priority Four

Fiscal Responsibility

With decades of experience managing Title I federal funding, grant procurement, and educational budgets, Marian knows what it means to be a true steward of public money. Every dollar spent by OCC must be accounted for and optimized.

  • Monitor expenditures across all programs for compliance and efficiency
  • Ensure each program operates within its allocated financial boundaries
  • Apply rigorous standards for measuring the effectiveness of funded programs
5
Priority Five

Increase Funding

Great community colleges are built on diversified, sustainable funding. Marian will actively pursue new revenue streams to expand OCC’s programs and capabilities without overburdening taxpayers.

  • Pursue federal and state grants specifically designed for junior colleges
  • Establish relationships with private foundations and philanthropic partners
  • Leverage OCC’s track record to compete for and win competitive grant funding
6
Priority Six

Advertise the Tuition Advantage

OCC offers one of the best educational values in Michigan — but too many residents don’t know it. Marian will lead a proactive community education campaign to ensure families understand just how affordable and high-quality OCC truly is.

  • Communicate the significant cost savings of community college vs. four-year institutions
  • Highlight transfer agreements and career pathways available through OCC
  • Partner with employers to promote OCC credentials and certifications
